Greetings listeners, going to Denver for convention? Want to know what’s in store? Listen up for the latest and greatest to make your ASHA 2015 experience all it can be.
Today we have Lisa Fields, the membership administrator for NSSLHA, who’s going to tell us about some student events going on at convention, starting with NSSLHA honors. Lisa, what does it mean to be a NSSLHA honor recipient?
The NSSLHA honors program was designed to really highlight all of the outstanding students, faculty, chapters and individuals who have made a significant contribution to communication sciences and disorders at both the national and the local level.
So this lunch on November 13th is to recognize them? How do you get tickets for the lunch?
Yeah. The lunch begins at 11:30 at the Denver Embassy Suites on Friday the 13th. We honor each of our winners with their awards and also announce the winners of the Charge Up Your Chapter video contest. Tickets are available for purchase when you register for convention. You can go back in at any time and add that to your registration if you haven’t purchased it already.
Okay, and what else will you announce at the lunch?
This year we have a very exciting guest speaker, Dr. Juan Jose Beunza, who is sure to ignite the audience’s passion for the profession. There will also be some special prizes handed out by our sponsors.
And where can they get more information if they need it?
You can contact us any time by emailing NSSLHA@ASHA.org or visiting our website.
Okay. Thanks Lisa!

Hi. We’re here with Nikki Beidler, ASHA’s marketing manager, who’s going to tell us what’s new for the ASHA store at convention. Hi Nikki, what’s on tap?
Hey Kelly, we have some fun new T-shirts this year for both audiologists and SLPs, and men and women. We also have a variety of new gift items, like a wine bottle holder, new mugs, a stylish black tote, and our new speak-from-the-heart notebook. In addition, we’re offering various new CEU courses, our new private practice essentials book for those who want to start their own practice, and for those who already have one. The new 2016 coding and billing book will also be available for preorder at the store. This edition includes new ICD-10 diagnostic codes and recent first quarter [inaudible] charge data.
That sounds great. Are there any promotions going on at the store during convention?
Absolutely. Our biggest promotion this year at the store is the chance to save up $25 off of $100 or more order, or $10 off a $50 order with our exclusive convention coupon. In addition, we have a lot of items that have special convention pricing, such as our new private practice book and our new 2016 coding book. All of our posters are also marked down to $10 or less, so we have a lot of great opportunities to save at convention this year.
That sounds fantastic. Are there any special events going on at the store during convention?
We do. We have the opening plenary speaker, Kelly McGonigal, coming to the ASHA store on Thursday November 12th from 11:30 to 1:00 for an exclusive book signing. We will also be selling her book, The Upside of Stress, at 20% off.
Wow! Now, will we see the selfie station again this year?
Yes we will, Kelly. It’s here for the second year. Attendees can come take a picture with our fun props that showcase their profession, and post to Facebook. There will also be Denver themed props this year. So come have fun with your friends and colleagues!
I’m really excited about all the new items for sale this year!
So are we Kelly, and we want convention attendees to help us spread the word. On Saturday at noon we will have an opportunity for anyone who wants to come to the ASHA store and join us for an ASHA gear group photo. The image will be featured in the 2016 ASHA Leader, as well as the online ASHA store. So come show off your ASHA gear that you just bought or that you may already have and smile for the camera.
That sounds awesome. I’d love to see some members in the Leader or online. Where do we meet up?
We will be meeting at the ASHA store entrance, booth 444, at noon on Saturday. Hope to see everyone there!
